The new route is expected to boost
trade, tourism, investment and business cooperation between Uganda and Ghana.
Uganda Airlines is set to launch
direct flights between Entebbe International Airport and Accra, Ghana, on
October 27, 2026, in a move aimed at strengthening air connectivity between
East and West Africa.
The new route will mark the airline’s
entry into the Ghanaian market and is expected to create fresh opportunities
for business, tourism, trade and investment between the two countries.
Ahead of the launch, Uganda Airlines
has embarked on commercial roadshows in Ghana to promote the new service and
engage travel agents, tour operators, business leaders and other industry
stakeholders.
The airline has also held a travel
trade workshop with Ghanaian travel agents and tour operators to showcase
Uganda as a tourism destination and highlight the services available through
the national carrier.
New
Route Expected to Boost Trade and Tourism
Uganda Airlines says the direct
connection will make travel between Uganda and Ghana more convenient while
strengthening commercial relations between the two countries. The route is
expected to serve both business and leisure travellers, while improving the
movement of cargo and creating opportunities for exporters, importers,
investors and service providers. The airline also anticipates that the service
will support business-to-business partnerships and improve access to markets
under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).By connecting the two
countries directly, Uganda Airlines hopes to strengthen economic cooperation
and facilitate greater interaction between businesses and citizens in the two
regions.
Opportunities
for Ghanaian and Ugandan Businesses
The new air link is expected to give
Ghanaian businesses easier access to Uganda and the wider East African
Community (EAC), a regional market that the airline says represents more than
300 million consumers.
Potential areas of cooperation include
agriculture, hospitality, education, healthcare, financial services,
information and communication technology, creative industries and professional
services.
Uganda also has a range of products
that could attract Ghanaian importers, including Arabica and Robusta coffee,
tea, pharmaceuticals, fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, fish,
grains, processed foods, textiles and leather products.
According to Uganda Airlines, improved
air connectivity could make the transportation of fresh and high-value goods
more efficient, while helping businesses strengthen supply chains and establish
new commercial partnerships.
Ghana-Uganda
Trade and Business Forum Scheduled for October 28
To build on the opportunities
presented by the new route, Uganda Airlines, in partnership with the Uganda
Tourism Board, the Uganda High Commission in Ghana and other trade and
investment promotion agencies, is scheduled to host the Ghana-Uganda Trade and
Business Forum on October 28, 2026.
The event will take place at the Accra
Marriott Hotel under the theme, “Leveraging Air Connectivity for Trade,
Tourism, Investment and Economic Cooperation.” The forum is expected to
bring together government officials, investors, business executives, exporters,
tourism stakeholders and industry experts from both countries. Organizers
intend to use the event to encourage business partnerships, promote investment
opportunities, improve market access and strengthen commercial relations
between Uganda and Ghana.
Uganda
Targets Ghanaian Tourists
Beyond trade and investment, Uganda
Airlines is positioning the new route as an opportunity to attract more
Ghanaian visitors to Uganda. The country offers a range of tourism experiences,
including mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park,
wildlife safaris across its savannah parks, cultural attractions and
nature-based tourism. The airline believes improved direct connectivity could
make Uganda more accessible to Ghanaian travelers seeking tourism experiences
within Africa.
A
New Chapter in Regional Connectivity
The introduction of direct flights
between Entebbe and Accra forms part of Uganda Airlines’ broader ambition to
connect African markets and facilitate easier movement of people and goods
across the continent.
If the anticipated benefits materialize,
the new route could strengthen commercial ties between Uganda and Ghana while
opening additional opportunities for tourism operators, investors and
businesses in both countries. The service is scheduled to commence on October
27, 2026, followed by the Ghana-Uganda Trade and Business Forum the next day.
