Medicare Launches $50 GLP-1 Weight-Loss Drug Program

Starting July 1, Medicare began the GLP-1 Bridge demonstration, offering certain weight-loss GLP-1 drugs to eligible Part D beneficiaries for a $50 monthly copay. Covered products include Wegovy, Zepbound and Foundayo.

To qualify, beneficiaries generally need a body mass index of 35 or higher, or a BMI of 27 with another qualifying condition such as heart disease or prediabetes. People already receiving GLP-1 coverage for diabetes or sleep apnea are not eligible for this weight-loss pathway.

The program runs through December 31, 2027, and operates outside standard Part D payment flow, meaning the copay does not count toward deductibles or out-of-pocket maximums.
